What’s a Car Seat Check?
It’s like a free, hands-on safety class with a personal coach. You show up during your schedule time, one of our certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST) inspects your car seat(s) and then shows you all the ways to make sure your child is as safe as possible while on the road.
Why do I need to get my Car Seat Checked?
Even if you’ve read the manual and watched installation videos, car seats can be tricky. A car seat check gives you peace of mind and helps you:
- Avoid common mistakes that could reduce the seat’s effectiveness
- Learn hands-on tips from certified experts
- Feel confident that your child is as safe as possible every time you hit the road
What does the Child Passenger Safety Technician do?
The tech is here to ensure:
- You have the right seat for your child’s age, weight, and height
- Your seat is installed correctly in your vehicle
- Your child is harnessed properly
- There are no recalls or safety issues with the seat
- You know what to look for each time you install the seat and buckle up your child
What and who do I bring to a Car Seat Check?
- Your vehicle with the car seat(s) installed.
- Your kiddos who ride the seats, if possible.
- Your vehicle and car seat manuals, if available.
- Feel free to bring a caregiver to watch your child(ren) while you are working with the technician.
What exactly is involved?
- When you arrive at our location, you’ll see signs pointing you to the car seat check location.
- Follow the signs and a friendly car seat technician will greet you and walk you through the process.
- Remember, you’ll be part of the entire experience.
- Your child(ren) will be weighed and measured for height, to determine the safest way to use the seat.
- Your technician will likely uninstall your seat(s) to check the manufacturer details on the bottom of the seat and then will reinstall it while talking you through the most accurate way to install the seat. Then they’ll ask you to install it. Just in case you need to do so at a later time.
